As a proud Smith alumna and grateful recipient of financial aid, our founder knows firsthand how transformative scholarship support can be. Alumknits exists because Smith made college possible — and this is our way of knitting that generosity forward.

That’s why a portion of every Smith College sweater sale is donated to Smith’s General Scholarship Aid Fund, helping ensure that cost is never the reason a talented student can’t say “yes” to Smith.

Helping Preserve Bug Light

The Duxbury Bug Light Sweater celebrates one of the area’s most recognizable landmarks and the remarkable history connected to the lights of Plymouth Bay. During the American Revolution, Hannah Thomas took over the care of nearby Gurnet Light following the death of her husband. She is recognized as America’s first female lighthouse keeper, paving the way for hundreds of women who would go on to maintain lighthouses across the country.

As a woman-founded brand, AlumKnits is especially proud to celebrate a place with such a meaningful connection to women’s history. A portion of proceeds from every Bug Light Sweater will be donated to Project Gurnet & Bug Lights, Inc. to support its work preserving and maintaining Bug Light and Gurnet Light for generations to come.
