After returning from her 30th college reunion, Tanya found herself inspired by the overwhelming response to her beloved hand-knit Smith sweater — a wedding gift she had treasured since 1997. With “Smith” proudly knit across the front and her class year stitched onto the sleeve, the sweater sparked conversations, memories, and connections everywhere she went.

In that moment, Tanya recognized something special: alumnae were looking for beautifully made, collectible sweaters that celebrated identity, tradition, and community with both style and meaning. Combining her lifelong love of Smith with her entrepreneurial spirit, AlumKnits was born.

The classic Smith sweater Smith Classic Crewneck became our inaugural design and remains at the heart of the collection today. Since then, AlumKnits has expanded to include specialty knits inspired by other Seven Sisters colleges with our Collegiate Collection, as well as designs celebrating beloved local icons.
